Safety and Sentencing Prison Program Crime Survivors Beyond Barriers

Ballot Measure Center

Partnership for Safety and Justice (PSJ) is working hard to defeat the mandatory minimum ballot measure (M61) that Oregonians will vote on in November 2008. This year the election is complicated and the best way to defeat the mandatory minimum ballot measure is to support an alternative, competing measure (M57). We have compiled a wide range of information to help people better understand the crime related ballot measures, their policies, projected impacts, and the politics behind them. You will also find positions that PSJ is taking on other ballot measures, along with plenty of information on how to support our election-related organizing efforts.

Please join us to celebrate the defeat of Mandatory Minimum Madness!

We couldn't have done it without you.  It was the effort of hundreds of volunteer hours that led to the defeat of Measure 61.  Please join us to celebrate our victory and get ready for the upcoming legislative session.  We've already had our Portland celebration but our Eugene celebration is set for December 11th.

Election Results Are In!

Measure 61, Mannix’s mandatory minimum measure, was beaten by Measure 57! We should take a moment to celebrate this incredible victory!

A Message from David Rogers, PSJ Executive Director

We are working hard to defeat M61. To keep you up-to-date on the campaign, we created the Ballot Measure Center to provide all the information, analysis and discussion necessary to help you and other Oregon voters understand the complex circumstances surrounding the issues on the ballot this November. In the Ballot Measure Center, you’ll find a wide range of information to help you better understand the crime related ballot measures, their projected impacts, and the politics behind them. You will also find positions that PSJ is taking on other ballot measures, along with plenty of information on how to support our election-related organizing efforts.

Justice Matters Election Issue

Looking for information to help you decide how to vote Oregon’s ballot this year? Check out the latest issue of PSJ’s newsletter, Justice Matters!

We zero in on ballot measures, with special focus on the potentially disastrous Measure 61. You’ll find plenty of information on that and Measure 57 on pages 5-12, including a feature story on page 10 about the unintended consequences of Measure 61 for mothers and children. Our positions on the other measures can be found on page 15, along with a tear off coupon with a list of our recommendations.

Ballot Measure Forum in Eugene

Right-wing activists are at it again, targeting vulnerable Oregonians through unclear, poorly-written and dangerous ballot measures, hoping to pit one community against another at election time.

If you are not targeted by a ballot measure this November, you probably have been in the past and will be again in the future.

That is why local community groups are coming together in solidarity on October 20th to educate their supporters and stand strong against this year’s crop of unjust and ill-conceived ballot measures.
