ID: Drug Treatment Program is Working
March 18, 2008 - 2:22pm
The Therapeutic Community TEAM Program is an intensive drug treatment program at South Idaho Correctional Institution. The program has a 77% success rate and has had 601 graduates since 2001.
The program is situated in the prison’s Parole Release Center and provides prisoners with skills to live and succeed without drugs after prison. After completing the program and being released, people are required to do a year of after care in the community. There’s a post-prison support group in the area of about 150 people, many of whom completed the year requirement but continue to support themselves and others who are new to the program.
Close to 53% of Idaho’s prison population has a drug addiction. Idaho has 328 Therapeutic Community beds in the state for men and 84 for women.
